Job summary

A specialist recruitment agency is seeking a Project Engineer to oversee rail infrastructure projects in Ashford, Kent. The successful candidate will manage design and construction activities, ensuring compliance with railway standards and safety procedures. Required qualifications include proven engineering project experience and active Sentinel competencies (PTS & COSS). This contract position offers a rate of £470–£533 per day for 12 months.

Qualifications

  • Proven experience delivering engineering projects in a rail or safety-critical environment.
  • Active Sentinel competencies: PTS & COSS (essential).
  • Strong understanding of risk management, CDM, and environmental standards.

  • Lead and coordinate design and construction activities across allocated projects.

  • Manage engineering teams, training, and competency requirements.
  • Carry out risk assessments, HAZOP analysis, and environmental management.
  • Oversee contractors and consultants, including site supervision, audits, and commissioning.
  • Act as Designated Project Engineer (DPE) when required.

Job Title: Project Engineer

Location: Ashford, Kent (travel across South London and Kent)

Contract: 12 months, Inside IR35

Rate: £470–£533/day (umbrella)

The Role

We are looking for a Project Engineer to support rail infrastructure projects, managing design and construction activities from inception through to completion. You will ensure all works are delivered safely on time, to budget, and in compliance with relevant railway standards and legislation.

Key Responsibilities
  • Lead and coordinate design and construction activities across allocated projects.
  • Ensure compliance with railway standards, specifications, CDM, and H&S procedures.
  • Manage engineering teams, training, and competency requirements.
  • Carry out risk assessments, HAZOP analysis, and environmental management.
  • Oversee contractors and consultants, including site supervision, audits, and commissioning.
  • Act as Designated Project Engineer (DPE) when required.
Skills & Experience
  • Proven experience delivering engineering projects in a rail or safety-critical environment.
  • Active Sentinel competencies: PTS & COSS (essential).
  • Strong understanding of risk management, CDM, and environmental standards.
  • Excellent leadership and stakeholder management skills.
