Production Operative - Grade 3 (Evening Shift)

We're Hiring: Production Operative (Evening Shift) - Grade 3

Location: Toome

Hours: Monday – Thursday 4.00pm – 2:00am (4-day work week)

Reports to: Maintenance and Masa Supervisor

Hourly Rate: £13.69, plus shift allowance

What You’ll Be Doing:
  • Operating production machinery safely and efficiently.

  • Supporting dry side operations and completing mould changes.

About the role

Key Responsibilities

The following list constitutes the key tasks and duties of your post upon which your job performance will be assessed.

  • Gain operational knowledge and be proficient in operation of the dry side area. This includes understanding all relevant systems, controls, and procedures associated with the dry side area to ensure efficient, safe, and high-quality production. Collaborate with team members and supervisors to continuously improve dry side operations and support troubleshooting efforts when required.

  • Carry out mould changes on brick and paving production equipment in accordance with company procedures, ensuring all safety protocols are followed and minimising downtime. Accurately set up, secure, and align moulds to guarantee product quality and consistency. Collaborate with maintenance and production teams to resolve any issues during mould changeover, and ensure tools and parts are cleaned and stored properly after each change.

  • Address faults as they arise, escalating significant issues to the appropriate personnel, and following all safety and environmental protocols associated with plant operations.

  • Perform regular cleaning of equipment and machinery to maintain optimal performance and prevent build-up of dust, debris, or product residue.

  • Operate forklifts as required, provided the appropriate license is held.

  • Ensure that workplace cleanliness is maintained and adhere strictly to all health and safety protocols. Take personal responsibility for your own well-being and promptly report any concerns as required by company policy.

  • Proactively seek and suggest ideas for improvement—whether related to health and safety, business processes, or cost-saving measures—and report them as a ‘Good Catch’.

  • Any other duties as required by management that are within your capability. (You will also be required to perform Grade 1 and 2 tasks, such as quality control, strapping, and wrapping, operation of KBH machine and dry side, whenever needed).

Required Criteria
  • Medically fit to undertake the physical requirements of the job.
  • Previous experience as a machine operator.
  • Previous experience working in a busy production environment.
  • Ability to meet production targets.
  • Adherence and appreciation for H&S and general housekeeping standards.
  • High level of verbal/written English.
  • Ability to work quickly to meet production deadlines.
  • Experience of effective communication to team members.
  • Good observational skills to spot defective products.
  • Patience to carry out repetitive tasks.
  • Available to respond to production problems outside normal hours.
  • Flexible approach to work required, willingness to retrain and learn new skills.
