Job Description

Job Title: Product Test Engineer – Power Electronics

Location: Warwickshire

Solution is seeking a highly motivated Product Test Engineer to support the testing and validation of power electronics systems, specifically inverters and e-machines, for our client in the automotive sector.

This role involves hands-on engagement with test beds, data acquisition systems, and test automation, ensuring effective preparation, installation, and execution of complex test cases. You’ll work closely with internal engineering leads, university researchers, and third-party partners to deliver best-in-class test support and analysis.

Responsibilities:
  1. Interpret customer requirements and execute technical test plans for power electronics systems.
  2. Operate and manage dyno-based test facilities to maximise utilisation.
  3. Analyse test data to identify issues and drive resolution through collaboration with support teams.
  4. Configure test methodologies in alignment with test bed capabilities.
  5. Coordinate the preparation, installation, and commissioning of Units Under Test (UUT) with a team of technicians.
  6. Schedule and execute multiple test plans for different stakeholders.
  7. Develop and update risk assessments, procedures, and single-point lessons.
  8. Drive continuous improvement in safety, quality, and testing processes.
  9. Contribute to 5S and engineering hygiene within the facility.
  10. Adhere to Health & Safety standards and maintain a safe working environment.
Essential Skills & Experience:
  • Strong foundational knowledge of inverters, e-machines, and power electronics systems.
  • Experience with rig or lab-based testing in a technical environment.
  • Understanding of test methodologies and facility operations.
  • Familiarity with automation and data acquisition systems.
  • Good understanding of electrical circuits, diagrams, and measurement techniques.
  • Mechanical and electrical competency in handling complex systems.
  • Proficient with data analysis tools and Microsoft Office Suite.
  • Structured, logical thinker with strong problem-solving skills.
  • Excellent communication and presentation skills.
  • Solid understanding of Health & Safety practices and risk management.
Desirable Skills & Experience:
  • Degree in Electrical, Mechanical, or Automotive Engineering (or related field).
  • Experience with tools such as AVL PUMA, ETAS INCA, and Vector CAN systems.
  • Knowledge of hybrid and battery electric vehicle (BEV) architectures.
  • Familiarity with high-voltage systems and safety protocols.
