Overview

We have an exciting opportunity for a Principal Psychologist to join integrated Mental Health teams at HMP Fosse Way and HMP Five Wells, both category C prisons, supporting males aged 21+. Both sites house patients with a variety of needs including complex and acute mental health needs. We are seeking a strong clinical or counselling psychologist who has experience in a fully integrated mental health service and understands the psychological services required and delivered within a prison healthcare setting. You will manage a Clinical Psychologist and Assistant Psychologist and develop the psychological services at the site.

Hours Monday to Friday 9am–5pm, 2.5 days at each site. Salary Up to £75,000 per annum depending on experience.

Main duties of the job

As a Principal Psychologist, your responsibilities will include:

  • Support the development and embedding of a trauma-informed mental health service model across sites
  • Offer clinical support and oversight to the Integrated Mental Health Team (IMHT)
  • Undertake psychological assessments
  • Support complex multidisciplinary formulations
  • Deliver psychological interventions to cases of complexity
  • Deliver and oversee 1:1 and group interventions as part of the Trauma Informed “Making Sense” Programme
  • Deliver teaching and training to healthcare and prison staff as required
  • Contribute to the development of audit, service evaluation and research profile as appropriate

Qualifications, skills and experience

Essential

  • Registered with the appropriate professional body (e.g., HCPC/BPS) for psychological therapy
  • Qualified clinical or counselling psychologist with senior/higher specialist level experience
  • Experience of highly specialist psychological assessment and individual and group-based treatment across care settings, including primary/secondary/specialist, inpatient/residential, outpatient and community teams, and forensic settings
  • Experience working with psychological trauma

Desirable

  • Experience in prison or secure settings is preferable
