Principal Flood Risk and Drainage Consultant

Job Title: Principal Flood Risk and Drainage Consultant

Location: Glasgow

Salary: £55,000 - £60,000

Responsibilities
  • Proactively seeking to win new projects for the company, capitalising on Business Development (BD) opportunities
  • Managing a team of technical professionals within the field
  • Conducting Flood Risk Assessments (FRA) and designing Drainage Strategies, including Sustainable Drainage Systems (SuDS), in support of planning applications
  • Completing Hydrological and Flood Risk Chapters of Environmental Assessments, Nutrient Neutrality, and ESG factors
  • Attending site visits, writing comprehensive reports, and analysing data
  • Using the appropriate software packages (including MicroDrainage, Causeway Flow, etc.) to inform and produce designs and other technical documents
  • Working with AutoCAD to develop conceptual drainage systems
  • Producing flood risk maps within QGIS (or similar)
  • Establishing and maintaining excellent working relationships with clients and stakeholders across the public and private sectors
Required skills and experience
  • A UK Degree (or equivalent qualification) in Civil Engineering, Environmental Engineering, or a similar, relevant field
  • Experience of having won projects, contributing to business development
  • Considerable experience of working in a flood risk and drainage role, within a UK consultancy setting
  • Extensive experience of authoring Flood Risk Assessments and producing Drainage Strategies
  • Demonstrable experience in managing people and projects
  • Good working knowledge of MicroDrainage, InfoDrainage, Causeway Flow, TUFLOW, and similar software systems
  • Keen proficiency in the use of AutoCAD and GIS software systems
  • Excellent understanding of the Microsoft Office Suite
  • Outstanding communication (written and verbal) and interpersonal skills
  • Experience of managing relations with clients and other stakeholders
  • Dedication to your own Continuing Professional Development (CPD)
  • Possess a full, valid UK Driving Licence
Desirable skills and experience
  • An understanding of relevant planning policy, procedures, and regulatory processes within the industry
  • Prior experience of producing technical reports for flood modelling studies
  • Good knowledge of hydraulic modelling for rivers, surface water, and/or sewer drainage
  • Actively working to attain Chartered Status
