Principal Energy Engineer

2-year Fixed Term Contract

Workplace Attendance Category for this role is:

Hybrid – you’ll be expected to be in the office at least 3 days per week or 60% of your working time in the office.

The City of London Corporation has adopted a radical Climate Action Strategy that sets out how the organisation will achieve net zero, build climate resilience, and champion sustainable growth over the next two decades.

By adopting this strategy, the City Corporation has committed to:

  • Achieve net zero carbon emissions from our own operations by 2027.
  • Achieve net zero carbon emissions across our investments and supply chain by 2040.
  • Support the achievement of net zero for the Square Mile by 2040.
  • Invest £68m over the next six years to support these goals, with £15m dedicated to preparing the Square Mile for extreme weather events.
The role

You’ll will be identifying and taking forward energy conservation measures to business case stage and take ownership of completion. These projects will be delivered either via self‑delivery or by the active management and support of colleagues and contractors. Various tools will be at your disposal, including energy monitoring software, BMS and various Microsoft products. Engagement with your Energy Team colleagues is crucial for supporting reduction in consumption and cost.

You will actively manage an energy management programme and supporting projects pipeline to ensure momentum and transparent reporting are maintained.

About you

We are looking for a graduate with demonstrable significant post‑graduate experience at a mid‑senior level in an energy and carbon reduction projects position in an organisation with a large public or private sector estate.

You will have in‑depth and extensive knowledge of the mechanical and electrical building services and the solutions that can be applied to improve their efficiency combined with ability to understand complex technical issues and communicate effectively at an appropriate level with City of London (CoL) third‑party building and property design and maintenance teams.
