Job summary

An educational organization in Sunderland is seeking a passionate Primary Behaviour Mentor to support children in rediscovering joy in learning. You will provide 1:1 mentoring, emotional coaching, and help build safe routines for pupils needing extra reassurance. The ideal candidate has experience in SEMH, SEND, or youth settings, with a genuine desire to encourage and inspire children. This is a full-time temporary position with potential for permanent placement.

Primary Behaviour Mentor – Alternative Provision (Sunderland)

Pay: £89 to £110 per day
Start: Immediate
Contract: Full-time

This role is ideal if you love helping children rediscover joy in learning.

You’ll work closely with pupils who need extra reassurance, consistent praise and adults who won’t give up on them. You’ll support both learning and emotional development.

What you’ll be doing:

  • 1:1 mentoring, emotional coaching and check-ins
  • Supporting children through frustration, worry or sensory overload
  • Helping build routines that feel safe and predictable
  • Encouraging small wins and celebrating every one

You’ll thrive if:

  • You’ve worked in SEMH, SEND, primary pastoral roles or youth settings
  • You’re patient, encouraging and creative in how you connect
  • You genuinely enjoy helping children feel capable again

This role is all about relationships, reflection and growth.

All pay rates quoted will be inclusive of 12.07% statutory holiday pay. This advert is for a temporary position. In some cases, the option to make this role permanent may become available at a later date.
