Pre-Registration Trainee Pharmacy Technician (PTPT)

A challenging and rewarding opportunity has arisen to join the pharmacy team at the RNOH. We are seeking a forward thinking and highly motivated Pre-Registration Pharmacy Technician to be trained within the workplace and complete a two year apprenticeship training programme of underpinning knowledge and NVQ assessments.

The Royal National Orthopaedic Hospital NHS Trust (RNOH) is a national centre of excellence with an international reputation for diagnosis, assessment and treatment of a range of neuro-musculoskeletal conditions.

The RNOH is a unique hospital site situated in acres of greenery and has recently completed the redevelopment of a new ward block and four new Theatres at the Stanmore site. The new hospital is a state-of-the-art facility that reflects and enhances the medical excellence the RNOH is renowned for. The trust is also in the process of implementing a new EPR system which has many benefits which includes enhanced patient engagement with the introduction of a new patient portal as well as streamlined work flows.

This is a fantastic opportunity for someone interested in a pharmacy career to 'earn while they learn' to complete a qualification and register with the General Pharmaceutical Council (GPhC) as a Pharmacy Technician.

Overview

The closing date is 14 October 2025. This role is funded as a two-year apprenticeship delivered as a blended learning package with the trainee gaining knowledge through virtual learning one day a week for two years to complete the NVQ element and being assessed in the workplace over two years. There is huge scope for personal and professional development through exposure to all departmental activities. The Pharmacy Department has a strong focus on medicines optimisation and innovative pharmaceutical practice, offering opportunities for professional development.

Main duties of the job

The post holder will work as part of a team to complete the following:

  • Provide dispensary-based patient services to inpatients and outpatients
  • Collaborate with the multidisciplinary team to deliver patient-focused medicines optimisation through timely supply of medicines, utilisation of patients' own medicines and medicines counselling
  • Participate in medicines optimisation, ward top-up and ward-based dispensing
  • Progress towards registration with the GPhC as a Pharmacy Technician and gain experience across areas of the Pharmacy Department
  • Strengthen organisational skills through co-ordination and prioritisation of work

  • Be able to produce certificates at interview to evidence a minimum of 5 GCSEs grade C or above in Maths, English and Science
  • Have the right to live and work in the UK, in line with government apprenticeship guidance, sponsorship cannot be offered
  • Undertake enrolment activities, leading to a successful offer to study
  • Commit to study the full apprenticeship programme
  • Attendance of training at the associated HEI is considered to be essential

The interview will include a numeracy and literacy test.

  • Commit to study the full 2 year programme
  • Must not have studied the same subject, at the same or higher level previously
