Overview

Please note: this is a FlexiBank role working on an 'as and when required' basis; you will be required to supplement staffing levels during busy periods and provide cover for existing staff during periods of annual leave or absence.

Role

PRE-ASSESSMENT HCA - FLEXIBANK

Reporting to the Pre-Assessment Lead, the successful Pre-Assessment HCA will undertake the following roles and responsibilities:

  • Support RGNs in the implementation of an agreed plan of care with the patient.
  • Help promote and maintain a caring, supportive environment focused on meeting the needs of the patient/relatives/carer, working collaboratively with other departments to achieve this.
  • Look after the physical comfort of patients, for example helping them with activities of daily living.
  • Take basic observations such as blood pressure and temperature, height and weight, utilising the early warning score system as per hospital policy and escalate appropriately to the trained nurse.
  • Listen and talk to patients, helping them to feel supported and safe.
  • Assist with keeping the department clean and tidy, cleaning of equipment, adhering to infection prevention and control policy and hospital procedures at all times.
  • Keep supplies and equipment in order, assisting in the maintenance of stock levels.
  • Maintain contemporaneous patient records including patient pathways and the relevant IT reporting systems are up-to-date and accurate ensuring countersigned by a trained nurse.
  • Chaperone when required.
  • Participate in basic wound care management as required.
  • Deal with any patient/relative complaints at the time if possible however escalate to appropriate member of staff if need be.
