Job summary

A leading healthcare provider in Sheffield seeks a Post CCT Clinical Fellow in Kidney Transplantation. This part-time role will commence in February 2026, focusing on continual quality improvement, teaching, and research within the kidney transplant program. Post CCT Clinical Fellow in Kidney Transplantation

The closing date is 22 December 2025

This is a part time Post-CCT Fellowship in Kidney Transplant Medicine to Sheffield Teaching Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust based at the Northern General Hospital. The appointment is to commence in February 2026 for a fixed term period of 12 months.

Main duties of the job

The appointee will, together with consultants, contribute to a program of continual quality improvement in the kidney transplant program.

The role will focus on the following components:

  • Gaining particular experience and confidence in developing, leading the kidney transplant program including living donor and recipient assessment.
  • Developing systems aimed at improving the number and outcomes of transplants in Sheffield including the donor and recipient pathway.
  • Gaining experience in expanding transplant numbers by working with the H and I lab to enhance the HLA high risk antigen de-listing program and develop strategies to increase transplant uptake in marginalised populations such as those from minorities or those with obesity.
  • Contribution to ongoing research projects that add to the existing research profile and strengthen the research experience of the post holder.
  • Learn from other centres both in the UK and internationally.
  • To update Sheffield Area Kidney Association (SAKA) and Sheffield Hospitals Charity on a regular basis on progress of the post and to include recognition of funding support in all correspondence.

Person Specification
Clinical experience
  • Possess broad clinical experience in all aspects of the nephrology, dialysis and transplantation
  • Long term commitment to sub-specialisation in transplantation
  • Equivalent to ST6+
  • Experience of advanced transplant practice (eg Working H&I laboratory data, ents, but any aspect of advanced transplant practice relevant)
Continuous Professional Development
  • Evidence of participation in CME/CPD in the last 12 months
  • Maintenance of a CPD diary or portfolio
Personal attributes
  • Demonstrates behaviour consistent with PROUD values (see appendix)
  • Good oral and written communication skills
  • The applicant must demonstrate skills in listening, reading, writing and speaking the English language that enables effective communication about medical topics with patients and colleagues as set out in the GMC's good medical practice (2013)
Teaching and training
  • Experience of teaching student doctors and doctors in training at all levels
  • To have the ability and willingness to teach at all levels and to all groups of staff
Qualifications

Research
  • Ability to critically assess published research and incorporate it into clinical practice where appropriatePresentation (and/or publication) at national and international meetings in the field of transplantation
