Band 2 - £12.21 per hour

Position 1 - Working 37.5 hours per week, Monday - Friday - 10.00am-6.00pm

Position 2 - Working 37.5 hours per week Monday - Friday - 12 midday - 8.00pm

Overview

We are currently looking for two Porters to join our friendly and supportive team at Nottingham City Hospital. The successful candidates will provide a high-quality portering service across all hospital areas, ensuring patient safety, dignity, and comfort at all times while following Trust policies and procedures.

You will work independently and as part of a team under the direction of the Assistant Manager - Patient Movement, delivering services efficiently and professionally.

We are looking for people who have a friendly and helpful manner and have a sensitive approach when dealing with patients and their families.

Duties
  • Transfer patients safely and promptly between wards and departments using wheelchairs, trolleys, beds, or other approved equipment.
  • Assist with the moving and handling of patients in line with manual handling training and health and safety guidelines.
  • Transport deceased patients to the mortuary in a discreet, respectful, and sensitive manner, observing religious and cultural requirements.
  • Collect and deliver pharmacy supplies to wards and departments.
  • Collect urgent specimens and deliver them to the pathology laboratory.
  • Receive deliveries and transport medical gas cylinders across the Trust.
  • Assist nursing staff when transporting patients requiring ventilators, medical gases, or specialist equipment.
  • Provide a Trust-wide transportation service for bloods, samples, fluids, medications, notes, X-rays, snack boxes, and other items related to patient care.
  • Provide an emergency collection service for blood samples during pneumatic tube system failures.
Skills required
  • Previous experience in a hospital or healthcare setting in a similar role.
  • A friendly, caring, and professional manner with a sensitive approach to patients and their families.
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills, with the ability to complete documentation accurately and legibly.
  • Physically fit and able to lift, move, and manoeuvre patients and equipment in accordance with manual handling guidelines (including bariatric patients).
  • Calm and stable temperament, able to work under pressure and meet response times.
  • Flexible, motivated, proactive team player who is adaptable to change.
