About the Academy in Bordon

The school supports pupils aged 4 to 19 with complex learning needs, providing a nurturing environment where every child is encouraged to reach their full potential. They have a dedicated team of highly trained staff who work closely with each child’s strengths, setting high but achievable expectations. All students have an Education, Health and Care Plan (EHCP), and benefit from a collaborative approach involving therapists, medical professionals, and specialist teachers. A range of on-site therapies, including speech and language, occupational, and physiotherapy, is available to support pupils' individual needs. Personal development—spiritual, moral, social, and cultural—is central to their ethos, helping students gain independence and prepare for adult life. A full-time nurse is also based on site to support pupil well-being.

What You’ll Be Doing as a PMLD Learning Support Assistant
  • Provides 1:1 and group support for pupils with PMLD.
  • Assists with personal care, feeding, and mobility.
  • Uses specialist equipment like hoists and standing frames safely.
  • Work closely with teachers and therapists to implement strategies and achieve individual goals for students.
  • Supports sensory-based learning activities and therapies.
  • Implements EHCP targets in collaboration with teachers and therapy teams.
  • Creates a supportive learning environment.
  • Uses various communication strategies such as visual aids and sensory cues. Nurtures and supports the emotional well-being of students.
What you’ll need to be a PMLD Learning Support Assistant
  • Compassion and patience.
  • Experience with Autism, PMLD, and complex medical needs.
  • Ability to assist with personal care and mobility.
  • Proficiency in using specialist equipment.
  • Experience supporting young adults with SEN.
  • Knowledge of trauma-informed practices.
  • Strong relationship-building and social communication skills.
  • Valid DBS (Disclosure and Barring Service) clearance.
