Qualifications

  • NVQ or City & Guilds Level 3 qualified in Mechanical Engineering (Plumber).
  • Experience in commercial or industrial heating, water, or building service systems.
  • Two years' relevant experience as a plumber or equivalent.

Responsibilities

  • Maintain and ensure the safety of plumbing systems in HMP Winchester.
  • Work collaboratively with a diverse Facilities Maintenance Team.
  • Contribute positively to the operation of HMP Winchester.

Salary: £41,818.21 per annum + £1,500 per annum location bonus

Overtime and on-call additional payments also available

Contract: Permanent, Monday to Friday, 39 hours per week

We are seeking an NVQ or City & Guilds Level 3 qualified Mechanical Engineer (Plumber) to join our team at HMP Winchester, a category B local, adult male prison.

HMP Winchester operates like a self-contained city, requiring hundreds of staff to keep it functioning. As part of the Facilities Maintenance Team, we are committed to ensuring smooth and safe operations, impacting prisoners, staff, visitors, and the wider community.

As a Mechanical Engineer, you will work alongside experienced colleagues including Plumbers, Electricians, Carpenters, Painters, Cleaners, and Administrators, all dedicated to making a positive difference and providing a secure environment.

We are a Ministry of Justice business providing critical services to HMPPS, and are looking for a Plumber with the following qualifications and skills:

  • C&G 6189 Plumbing and domestic heating
  • C&G 5962 certificate in Plumbing (Advanced craft)
  • C&G 6019 Mechanical Engineering services (plumbing)
  • C&G 6018 heating and ventilation installation
  • C&G 6129 certificate in Plumbing
  • C&G 214 Engineering systems maintenance
  • C&G 6188 Heating and ventilating
  • C&G 6088 certificate in heating and ventilating
  • C&G 6032 the advanced craft certificate in plumbing
  • EAL Diploma in Plumbing and Heating
  • Experience working on commercial or industrial heating, water, or building service systems.
  • Unvented water heater vessel course G3 - Highly desirable
  • Two years' experience as a plumber or equivalent
  • Familiar with Water supply regulation and Legionella L8 requirements
  • Good knowledge of planned preventive maintenance and health & safety requirements
  • L8 awareness training - Desirable (provided if required)
