Job summary

A local government organization in Wales is seeking a Placement Support Worker to provide direct support to children and young people in foster placements. Overview

Placement Support Worker - Children's/Fostering - Fixed Term • 37 hours per week • 6 x Positions Available • Fixed Term up to March 2028

About the Role

As a Placement Support Worker, you will deliver direct, intensive support to children and young people in foster placements, those returning home, and their carers. You will work as part of a dedicated team that helps to maintain placement stability, support reunification, and improve outcomes for children.

Responsibilities
  • Delivering 1:1 and group interventions to children, young people, and their carers
  • Supporting with crisis management, behaviour regulation, and placement planning
  • Working in partnership with social workers, foster carers, and families
  • Chairing family network meetings and contributing to care planning
  • Providing continuity of support and advice to foster families
  • Participating in an out-of-hours on call rota to support families
Qualifications and Experience
  • A relevant Level 3 qualification in Health and Social Care (or willingness to work towards Level 4)
  • Experience of direct work with children, young people, and families
  • Knowledge of safeguarding, child development, and current social care legislation
  • Excellent communication skills and the ability to work collaboratively across teams
  • A flexible, strengths-based approach to support work
  • A driving licence and access to a vehicle (essential)
  • The ability to greet customers through the medium of Welsh is a requirement for this post.

  • Protecting children, young people or adults at risk is a core responsibility of all council employees.
  • An Enhanced Disclosure with Children's & Adults Barred list by the DBS is a requirement for this post.
  • The council's Hybrid Working Policy applies to this post, providing a framework for working hours between home and the office.
  • A valid driving licence is a requirement for this post.
  • Weekend Working and Standby Duties are a requirement of this post.
