Job description

The post holder will work within the Respiratory Directorate, Aneurin Bevan University Health Board and is expected to deliver hands on clinical care to patients within the environment under the supervision of the medical consultant.

The Physician Associate (PA) will act within a predetermined level of supervision and within agreed national guidelines.

The Physician Associate will be aware of the limits of their competence and committed to acting within these limits. Although they may develop specialty expertise, PAs are expected to maintain their broad clinical knowledge base through continuing professional development (CPD).

This post is fixed term/secondment until 31st March 2027 due to secondment cover. If you are interested in applying for the secondment position, you must obtain permission from your current line manager prior to applying for this post.

This post is for 22.5 hours per week, including weekends

Main duties of the job

The Physician Associate will be encouraged to develop and enhance their skill set with regular personal appraisals and opportunities for development.

To thrive in this challenging, exciting, and demanding role you will require commitment, resilience, and an eagerness to succeed.

You will need to have confidence to communicate and influence groups and individuals at all levels while remaining committed to providing excellent patient care.

To provide supervised level of care to patients that require diagnostic testing, observation, measurement and appropriate technological interventions in order to aid recovery.

Developing and delivering appropriate treatment and management plans on behalf of the supervising consultant.

Administer medication via intramuscular, subcutaneous intra-dermal and intravenous injections or oral routes

The ability to speak Welsh is desirable for this post; Welsh and/or English speakers are equally welcome to apply.

Qualifications and Knowledge
  • BA/BS degree prior to undertaking PA programme
  • Master's degree in physician Associate Studies from a recognised UK training programme
  • Registered with the GMC or evidence of submission to GMC
  • Undertake continuous directly observed procedural skills, case based discussions, and min clinical examination exercises
  • ILS ACLS, PALS Certification
  • Evidence of successful completion of internship period
