Job description

Responsible for performing all forms of phlebotomy procedures including registration on any age level, process specimens to ensure stability, perform order entry procedures to ensure accuracy of patient/testing information, and provide all laboratory results to providers.

Responsibilities
  • Obtain blood samples by performing venipunctures, finger sticks, and heel sticks on any age level. Use aseptic techniques and follow established procedures.
  • Enter all patient information into the correct hospital system, verifying patient demographics, updating and verifying all patient insurance, and administering ABN as needed.
  • Organize and distribute workload in phlebotomy, including routine, time-specific or stat orders, to ensure timely results to the provider.
  • Order tests in the computer and, if needed, contact the physician with questions relating to test requests.
  • File/scan scripts and insurance information, and prepare reports for delivery to the Doctor's office if needed.
  • Prepare samples for courier pickup and/or deliver samples to the appropriate department to ensure specimen integrity.
  • Maintain a proper inventory of supplies needed to provide continuous service, minimizing downtime.
  • Clean and maintain phlebotomy work areas, carts, etc. using established procedures.
  • Assist with the training of new employees.
  • Perform phlebotomy responsibilities at assigned location(s) determined by the manager to meet the needs of the department.
  • Perform all other related duties as assigned.
Job Qualifications and Specifications
  • A high school diploma and a minimum of six months job-related experience or equivalent is required.
  • All employees hired during or after 2012 must have Phlebotomy certification.
