An exciting opportunity has arisen for a part-time, enthusiastic Band 3 Phlebotomist to join our CQC rated 'Outstanding' Trust.

Based at West Berkshire Community Hospital, you will be working with a team of Phlebotomists. The department is expanding its opening hours and will be open between Monday to Friday between 08:00-18:00 hrs and on alternative Saturday mornings between 08:00-13:00 hrs. We are a busy, dynamic department and would like to hear from suitable qualified people.

You will have had recent phlebotomy experience (minimum 6 months) and are expected to complete our local competency assessments.

This post is 30 hours per week

Main duties of the job
  • Ensuring that the patient is as comfortable and relaxed as possible and confirming their agreement to the collection of a blood sample.
  • Ensure safe collection of blood samples according to agreed procedures.
  • Ensure appropriate and accurate labelling and dispatch specimens to laboratories.
  • To answer the telephone and deal with calls politely and efficiently

  • GCSE English or equivalent
  • GCSE Maths or equivalent
Continuous Professional Development
  • Fully Trained in Phlebotomy procedures.
Previous Experience
  • Able to perform phlebotomy procedures without direct supervision.
  • Previous Laboratory work experience
  • Work experience in a healthcare environment
Additional Requirements
  • Ability to travel to multiple sites.
  • Ability to work well under pressure.
  • Sound understanding of health and safety requirements.
  • Awareness of data protection and confidentiality issues
  • Must be physically able to assist less able & wheelchair bound patients.
