We have an exciting opportunity for an enthusiastic Pharmacy Technician to join our growing Medicines Management Team.
We are looking for a technician with excellent communication and people skills to work with our PCN Pharmacists. This role offers the chance to collaborate with established pharmacists and technicians to provide excellent care across North Shropshire.
Clinical Pharmacy in General Practice is part of a transformative programme aiming to develop a new model of person-centred, coordinated care across the PCN. Supported by national policies such as the Five Year Forward View and GP Forward View, this model seeks to better utilise primary care roles to proactively help patients stay safe and well, reduce hospital admissions, and lessen the demands on general practice.
Pharmacy Technicians play a vital role, complementing clinical Pharmacists, community Pharmacists, and other multidisciplinary team members. Unlike Clinical Pharmacists, Technicians do not prescribe or make clinical decisions but work under supervision to ensure effective and efficient medicines use. They cover clinical, technical, and administrative areas in primary care.
The role's purpose is to lead improvements that ensure safe, cost-effective, and best practice prescribing to enhance patient care. The post holder will assist patients in optimising their medicines, including medication switching according to protocols, improving repeat prescribing and online ordering, and minimising clinical risks.
North Shropshire Primary Care Network comprises 6 GP practices serving 81,000 patients, with services also provided to an additional 8,500 patients.
The post's goal is to lead initiatives that promote safe, cost-effective prescribing to improve patient outcomes. Responsibilities include supporting medication optimisation, promoting repeat dispensing and online ordering, reducing waste, and helping the practice teams understand medicines principles aligned with current therapeutic developments and national initiatives.
This role requires a DBS check in accordance with the Rehabilitation of Offenders Act 1975.
