We are looking for a dedicated Pharmacy Technician to join our friendly and supportive general practice team. In this role, you will play a key part in ensuring the safe and timely supply of medications, holding patient clinics, supporting clinicians with technical and administrative tasks, and contributing to audits and quality improvement initiatives.

We are looking for someone to work on a 3 month fixed term contract with potential to lead on to a permanent position.

Main duties of the job

Accurately and safely dispense prescribed medications under the supervision of the GP.

Hold patient clinics to review and manage medication, answering queries and providing advice within professional boundaries.

Provide technical and administrative support to the clinical team.

Conduct audits and monitor prescribing to support patient safety, sharing findings with the clinical team.

Participate in quality improvement projects to enhance patient outcomes and reduce health inequalities.

Job responsibilities

Support medication reviews and medicines optimisation under the supervision of clinical pharmacists and GPs

Process repeat prescriptions, ensuring accuracy and safety

Reconcile medications following hospital discharges and outpatient appointments

Provide advice to patients on the safe and effective use of their medicines

Assist with audits, quality improvement projects, and prescribing initiatives

Maintain accurate records and contribute to the smooth running of the practices medicines management systems

Person Specification
Qualifications
  • Registered Pharmacy Technician with the GPhC (General Pharmaceutical Council).
  • Qualified via an approved training pathway, e.g.
  • Primary Care Pharmacy Educational Pathway (PCPEP)
  • Medicines Optimisation in Care Homes (MOCH)
  • Other courses approved by the Association of Pharmacy Technicians UK (APTUK) that meet the APTUK/PCPA National Competency Framework for Primary Care Pharmacy Technicians.
  • Evidence of continued professional development (CPD) relevant to primary care pharmacy practice.
  • Experience in a pharmacy or healthcare setting (preferred, but may be optional depending on your scoring).
  • Ability to work safely and within professional boundaries in a clinical team.
  • Experience working in primary care or general practice settings.
  • Experience holding patient-facing clinics or managing medication reviews.
  • Knowledge of NHS IT systems, e.g.Emis
  • Experience with medication audits, quality improvement, or prescribing safety initiatives.
  • Additional training or certification in specialist areas, e.g., long-term conditions, polypharmacy, or medicines optimisation.
  • Strong communication and teamwork skills, with the ability to liaise effectively with patients and clinical colleagues.
