Job summary

A support charity in Scotland is looking for a part-time Personal Assistant to provide support and companionship to a young man with Autism in Kilwinning. Personal Assistant / Support Worker (P/T)

Hours: 6 hrs per week.

Proposed shifts: 10am – 1pm or 1.30pm – 4.30pm (Days flexible to be discussed at interview).

Rate of Pay: £12.60 - £13.73 per hour.

Role Summary

Provide support and companionship to a young man with Autism, who lives with his family in the Kilwinning area.

Key Responsibilities
  • Maintain confidentiality at all times.
  • Offer social support and companionship within the local community, ensuring his safety. Constant supervision is required as he has no sense of danger or road safety.
  • Assist with accessing community activities such as the gym, swimming pool (he cannot swim but enjoys being in the water), football games, and other excursions, including longer trips to stadiums.
  • Support personal care tasks, e.g., prompting dressing after swimming.
  • Encourage confidence so he can attend cultural events such as Centre Stage in Kilmarnock.
Essential Criteria
  • Experience working with young adults with Autism.
  • Possession of a valid driver’s licence, use of own car and business insurance, and physical fitness to respond quickly if he runs off.
  • Will undergo a new PVG Disclosure at the employer’s expense and provide two reference contacts prior to appointment.
Other Information
  • 6‑month probationary period with one‑week notice during that period.
  • Mileage costs covered for work related travel; travel allowance incorporated in the wage.
