Job description
Personal Assistant – 75‑Year‑Old Male

Location: Burry Port area

This role consists of 5 hours per week, with mileage paid at 45p per mile up to 20 miles per week.

Outcomes and How They Are to Be Achieved

Personal Assistant (PA) to support the individual to access the wider community and opportunities that otherwise may be closed to him if he were not to have access to Direct Payments.

PA to discuss with the Individual what is important to him in relation to activities and to support him with sourcing these.

To provide choice and control for the individual on when he would like the support provided and by whom. He has been attending Zion, which is the Church in Llanelli where People Speak Up meet on a Monday and therefore, he would like to continue to attend. Also likes going to the theatre.

A DBS is required before you can start working with the individual under Direct Payments.

Responsibilities
  • Supporting the employer with encouragement in gaining independence
  • Enabling the employer to interact socially in the community
  • Providing support to the employer whilst shopping and attending activities of interest
  • Supporting the employer to develop independent living skills
  • Providing companionship in the employer’s home, including engaging in conversation and providing social interaction
  • Encouraging the employer to attend appointments
  • Ensuring the employer’s safety at all times during your working hours
  • Carrying out any other reasonable tasks that are requested by the employer during your working hours
  • Ensuring compliance with the Data Protection Act
  • Being mindful of safeguarding issues and providing feedback to Carmarthenshire County Council immediately on (01267 228751)
  • Being responsible for contacting the GP, Social Worker or Local Authority should the employer need medical assistance
Relationships & Communication
  • Ability to develop a supportive and caring relationship with the employer
  • To undertake all duties in a friendly and helpful manner
  • Ability to contact people on behalf of the employer when necessary
Job Working Environment

Working in the employer’s home and supporting them to access facilities and community activities.

  • Good communicator able to talk to people on behalf of the employer when required
  • Able to develop long‑term supportive and consistent relationships with employers
  • A full, clean driving licence; use of a car is likely to be required depending on the employer’s needs and proximity
  • Prepared to have business use on vehicle insurance to use the vehicle within work hours
  • Prepared to undergo training in order to best meet the employer’s needs
