A supportive care provider is looking for a Personal Assistant in Leeds to work part-time for a gentleman with autism. The role involves assisting with daily living activities, meal preparation, and engaging in social events. Ideal candidates will have excellent communication skills and understanding of autism. Flexibility with hours is expected, as assistance is needed on various weekdays and weekends, allowing for the potential for extra hours during holidays or special occasions.
I am in my 40s with autism and have a learning disability. I love life and enjoy living in my own home. I'd like someone to work with me to help me remain independent.
I need help to manage finances and bills, read material and interpret most written information.
I need prompts to maintain my self care and assistance as necessary. E.g. to take me to the barbers.
I need prompts to keep my property clean and tidy and assistance as necessary. E.g. cleaning.
I need a lot of help to manage my laundry in the way of organizing loads of washing/drying which need taking back and forth to laundrette. I need help to ensure laundry is dry and putting it away away in the right place.
I need assistance to help engage in events and activities and to help me get to and from events.
I need assistance with a weekly shopping budget and controlling spending when food shopping, prompting to select healthy options and ensure I have enough food for the week.
I needs assistance to put away shopping and manage sell by dates and food hygiene.
I need assistance to help me communicate verbally over the phone and in person when there's an issue. For example, a problem with my phone bill.
I need help to keep safe on one and with online forms and writing and reading emails/letters.
I need help with managing cooking, knowing the cooking time and heat temperature.
To meet my needs, I need someone with excellent communication skills who understands my autistism which means I can say things on rote or say things I think people need to hear. I need someone who is good at using strategies to help say the right words for me.
I would like someone to help me on Monday, Tuesday all day and again on Thursday from 3pm and Friday from 3pm. Weekends are also a possibility as I would like some assistance to go to the pictures or dancing in the evening.
There is also scope to do more hours with me when I have holidays from work, when I have a full week free. I could also do any weekday evening for going out, not only weekends.
My favourite things to do are the cinema, dancing, live music and theatre. I enjoy sharing a meal and coffee with people and going walking. My least favourite thing is sport.
