I am seeking a compassionate and dedicated personal assistant (PA) to provide support for 8 hours per week to my daughter, a 20-year-old autistic and ADHD individual living with anxiety and depression. My daughter has selective mutism and communicates effectively by typing into her phone. We are looking for someone to assist her in various aspects of her life, with a focus on community engagement and developing independent living skills. Your role will be essential in helping her to access the community and engage in various activities that enhance her overall well-being.

Job Description:

  • Accompany my daughter when she goes out to social activities and community events.
  • Assist with daily living tasks, including food preparation, in a collaborative manner.
  • Be a supportive companion and engage in meaningful conversations on topics that interest my daughter, including music, social and climate justice, feminism, disability rights, animals, and veganism.
  • Provide emotional support and understanding to help manage anxiety and depression, and enhance my daughter's general wellbeing, in a neuroaffirming way.
  • Empower and assist my daughter in maintaining her independence.
  • Help and support in the house.
  • Any other reasonable duties as requested.

Person specification

Essential:

  • Personal or professional experience of supporting autistic young people.
  • Willingness to go out in the community.
  • The ideal candidate will be kind, empathetic, calm, understanding, respectful and patient, and able to listen to my daughter and respond appropriately to her needs.
  • Reliability and consistency.
  • The person I employ must have an understanding of the need for confidentiality in all areas of work, including total respect for my daughter’s privacy.
  • UK license holder with the appropriate business insurance.

Desirable:

  • Previous experience in a similar role is preferred.
  • Flexibility in working hours to accommodate my daughter’s needs.
  • Shared interests such as music, social justice, disability rights, feminism, or similar passions.

Summary terms and conditions:

The rate of pay for this position is £15 per hour. Hours and times of work: 8 hours per week, arranged flexibly. Will be advised in advance. The annual holiday entitlement for this position will be equivalent to the work I would normally expect to be done during 5.6 consecutive weeks. This position requires the employee to complete the following free annual training: GDPR, Health and Safety, Food Hygiene, COSHH, Autism. Post is subject to the following:

  • A satisfactory enhanced Disclosure & Barring Service (DBS) check, the cost of which will be covered by the employer.
  • Satisfactory references from two referees, one of which must be your current or last employer.
  • Completion of a satisfactory probationary period of 6 months.
