The 18+ Care Leavers Service is a growing service that provides support to the Local Authorities care experienced young people. Kent County Council is a large authority and so this service is based at Dover Civic Centre.

Responsibilities
  • Provide support, assistance, and advice as the first point of contact for a specific number of care experienced young people up to age 25, as they prepare and plan to leave care and throughout their transition to adulthood.
  • Encourage and support young adults to actively participate and develop robust and detailed Pathway Plans that enable them to move successfully into adulthood and independent living, helping them achieve their goals.
  • Help care experienced young people to reach their potential by acting as their corporate parent in partnership with the Local Authority.
  • Be flexible in approach to meet the diverse backgrounds of young people, and be imaginative in helping them achieve the best possible outcomes.
  • Be organised and capable of balancing priorities, recording work accurately, and providing good planning that reflects the aspirations of the young people supported.
  • Build close working relationships with colleagues in other agencies as part of a wider network and advocate on behalf of the young people to ensure their needs are met.
  • Contribute to a service that was rated as "Good" at its last Ofsted inspection and aspires to be "Outstanding".
  • Receive regular 1:1 supervision, training, team practice, and reflection meetings while working with colleagues who are passionate about their work.
Requirements
  • Ability to travel across a wide geographical area, both inside and outside of Kent, in a timely and flexible manner to support care experienced young people (within Kent and Medway and on some occasions outside of Kent).
  • Flexibility to work outside of contracted hours when needed to meet the needs of the young people; overtime is not paid, but time in lieu is provided.
  • Hold a Full UK Driving Licence; applications will be considered if you are unable to drive due to a disability, as reasonable adjustments can be made.
  • Enhanced Disclosure Application to the Disclosure and Barring Service (DBS) is required.
  • Because this is a customer-facing role, a command of spoken English/Welsh sufficient for effective performance is required, as set out in the Job Description/Person Specification under Part 7 of the Immigration Act (2016).
