Job description
Overview

We have an exciting opportunity for a Clinical Psychologist (Band 8a) to join the Specialist Perinatal Mental Health Team working across Liverpool, Sefton and the broader Mersey Care footprint. Clinical Psychologists deliver direct support to families, supervise and support MDT colleagues, and provide training and consultation to partner agencies. The successful candidate will work autonomously across multiple sites and will receive regular supervision and CPD.

Key Responsibilities
  • Deliver highly specialist psychological assessments and intervention plans for mothers and families across a range of settings including acute hospital, outpatient and home.
  • Conduct comprehensive assessment using psychological and neuropsychological tests, self‑report measures, rating scales, observations and interviews with clients, family members and other professionals.
  • Formulate and implement evidence‑based intervention plans for physical and psychological health problems, maintaining provisional hypotheses and refining formulations across health‑care settings.
  • Implement a range of psychological interventions for individuals, families and groups within and across teams, adjusting formulations drawing upon different explanatory models.
  • Evaluate treatment options utilising physical and psychological theoretical and therapeutic models and complex clinical factors.
  • Analyse, interpret and make judgements regarding highly complex perinatal clinical issues and presentations, including expert opinion discrepancies.
  • Exercise autonomous professional responsibility for assessment, treatment and discharge of clients, in line with professional code of conduct.
  • Provide specialist advice, guidance and consultation to other MDT professionals and external agencies, facilitating a psychologically based framework of understanding and care.
  • Undertake risk assessment and risk management for individual patients and advise on psychological aspects of risk assessment and management.
  • Act as care coordinator, initiating planning and review of case conferences, advising on psychological management and reviewing psychological care for families and carers.
Qualifications & Experience

Relevant clinical psychologist qualifications and experience in perinatal mental health and evidence‑based psychological assessment and intervention. A strong team player with an understanding of the unique nature of the perinatal period and ability to balance the needs of mum, baby and wider systems.

Regular supervision and CPD, supportive and engaged Clinical Psychology team, flexible working requests will be considered. The role requires travel between multiple sites; primarily covering the Sefton area with cross‑cover across Liverpool.
