Job description
Overview

I'm Gaby, one of the Specialist Perinatal Mental Health Nurses within the South Perinatal team. We support women with severe or complex mental health conditions who are planning pregnancy, pregnant or have a child under one. We provide high quality, evidence-based specialist advice, assessment, and interventions. Our team includes Psychiatrists, Nurses, OT's, Social Workers, Nursery Nurses, Psychologists and Peer Support workers who work alongside each other to provide holistic and quality care for our patients. When I joined the team, I did not have much prior experience of working with perinatal mental illness, but became interested when working with patients during this period in my previous role. I found the team supportive and welcoming and this has allowed me to progress in my career within perinatal mental health. You will have the opportunity to further your knowledge and be provided with specialised training to support you within this role. This is a great opportunity to join a developing service and make a real difference in women's care. If you are successful, you will work with mothers, their infants and families who are at risk of or experiencing severe and complex perinatal mental health conditions.

Responsibilities
  • The post holder will work as part of the Specialist Perinatal Mental Health Team to ensure that women with severe or complex mental health conditions who are planning pregnancy, are pregnant or have a child under one, receive high quality, evidence-based specialist advice, assessment and interventions.
  • To ensure the provision of specialist advice, consultation, liaison and education to professionals who work with women contemplating pregnancy and during the perinatal period.
  • The role of the Clinical Nurse Specialist is to hold a small caseload of the most complex, high‑risk cases, provide and assist the development of skills, knowledge and understanding regarding the risks associated with this client group both with internal and external partners.
  • You will need to travel independently around the county meeting strict time deadlines, hold a full UK driving licence, have use of a vehicle, and cannot use public transport for this role as this is not a reliable form of transport and will not allow you to meet service needs. Please confirm in your application that you meet the specified criteria.
