Peeler / Skilled Machine Operator

Shift Pattern: Rotating shifts, up to and including 21-shift system

Hours: 42 hours per week

Salary: Circa £34,000 per annum + shift allowance

The Role

Adept is recruiting on behalf of a well-established manufacturing client for a Peeler / Skilled Machine Operator. This is a skilled, hands‑on position responsible for the set‑up, operation, and ownership of peeling machinery and associated equipment, supporting the production of high‑quality metal products in a safety‑critical manufacturing environment.

Key Responsibilities
Primary Duties
  • Set up and operate peeling machines and ancillary equipment, including saws
  • Carry out in‑process inspection to ensure quality and dimensional compliance
  • Manage swarf removal and maintain safe, clean working areas
  • Safely move materials using cranes, FLTs, and sideloaders
  • Work flexibly across shifts to support production demand and absence cover
  • Actively participate in company‑led initiatives relating to safety, quality, and performance
  • Contribute to continuous improvement activities, including problem solving, method improvement, efficiency data collection, and set‑up reduction
  • Maintain high standards of housekeeping (5S)
  • Carry out operator‑level machine maintenance, including pre‑start checks, lubrication, and clean‑down
  • Train and support other team members as required
  • Complete effective and efficient shift handovers
Skills, Experience & Qualifications
  • 5 GCSEs at grades A‑C (or equivalent); relevant industrial experience will also be considered
  • Proven experience in a machining or heavy manufacturing environment
  • Experience working with metal and complex alloys
  • Demonstrable ability to take ownership of machines, processes, and standards
  • Strong commitment to safety, quality, and continuous improvement
