Job description

The Clinical Governance Department plays a vital role in leading patient safety, clinical audit, complaints, health and safety, and risk management across the Trust. We work collaboratively to reduce risk and promote safe, high-quality care. As Patient Safety Manager, you will lead the provision of a first-class safety investigatory service across the Trust. You will provide advice and support to a team of Learning Response Leads, patient safety investigators, and Care Group managers on a range of complex issues including investigation scope, terms of reference, and stakeholder engagement. You will help develop the Learning Response service to ensure all patient safety investigations are completed and to a high standard, using PSIRF and investigation science methodologies. You will focus on timeliness, quality, and the effectiveness of learning response actions and safety improvement programmes., Reporting into the Head of Clinical Governance, your responsibilities will include:

  • Provide senior oversight of incident management and PSIRF across the Trust
  • Lead and manage the Learning Response Team, ensuring high-quality investigations
  • Support on complex, sensitive investigations and regulatory compliance
  • Drive learning from PSII themes and outcomes through the Trust's governance structures
  • Ensure investigations align with PSIRF methodologies and project management best practices
  • Supervise and coordinate the Governance/Patient Safety team to ensure business continuity
  • Promote a culture of safety, learning, and continuous improvement across the organisation
  • Substantial experience in serious incident investigation and report writing
  • In-depth knowledge of clinical governance, NHS risk management principles, and PSIRF
  • Knowledge of clinical issues, disease processes, and NHS regulatory frameworks
