Pastoral Support Mentor at Francis Barber Pupil Referral Unit (PRU) is a full-time, term-time only role (39 weeks) requiring immediate start. The post is for KS3 and Year 10 pupils, with responsibility for leading the KS3 and Year 10 team at the Tooting site and ensuring pupil progress across all aspects of their lives.

Francis Barber PRU provides education for pupils who have difficulties with mainstream schooling and has strong records of returning to suitable placements in mainstream schools and post-16 college settings.

Responsibilities

  • Lead the KS3 and Year 10 team at the Tooting site; support Keyworkers in their roles; lead small group sessions; follow up with families and mentor pupils.
  • Organise on-site activities relating to pupil welfare, PSHE or Careers.
  • Liaise with outside agencies (e.g., social services) to ensure support is impactful.

Person Specification / Qualifications

  • Excellent inter-personal skills with the ability to work flexibly to meet pupil and PRU needs.
  • Ability to diffuse challenging situations and help pupils understand barriers to learning, enabling them to apply strategies for success.
  • Experience of inclusion work with challenging pupils.

Francis Barber is an excellent PRU with a Good Ofsted grading; the successful candidate will have experience of inclusion work and should identify how they meet the person specification in their supporting statement.
