Job description
Overview

Learning Support Practitioners provide educational support and care to students with learning difficulties and/or disabilities across College. You will provide support, either one-to-one or for small groups of students, in class and across unstructured time to:

  • enable full understanding of the curriculum and overcome barriers to learning
  • assist teaching staff by supporting students and guiding their learning
  • help with mobility and personal care needs in College and on off-site visits
  • In addition to in-class support there may be opportunities or requirements to provide out of class support to students over lunch and break times and a requirement to proactively liaise with tutors.
Responsibilities
  • Provide learning support to individual students or small groups to enable understanding of the curriculum and overcome barriers to learning
  • Support teaching staff by guiding and facilitating students’ learning
  • Assist with mobility and personal care needs in College and during off-site visits
  • Where applicable, provide out-of-class support during lunch/break times and proactively liaise with tutors
Qualifications and Skills
  • Applicants should be educated to Level 3 or above
  • Skills in several of the following areas:
  • support for people on the autistic spectrum
  • support for students with emotional and/or behavioural issues
  • support for people with severe learning difficulties/disabilities
  • support for people with medical conditions
  • knowledge and understanding of ICT and assistive technology
  • support for students with visual impairment
  • support for students with hearing impairment
  • mobility and personal care
  • promoting and supporting the independence of learners

Flexibility, energy and enthusiasm are also important in this role. Candidates must be available to work during college term time.

Hours and Salary

Hours: Applicants must be able to work a minimum of four full days per week on Mondays, Tuesdays, Wednesdays and Thursdays or Fridays, during college term time. 5 days per week could also be available.

Salary: £14.77 per hour inclusive of holiday pay. Plus generous pension scheme. The base hourly rate is £12.62 per hour, plus holiday pay, which gives an approximate hourly rate of £14.77 per hour.
