Responsibilities

The role is based in the Newham Rise service and part of the Outreach and Engagement team. The team supports people with their or their loved ones’ drug and/or alcohol issues. No two days are the same and we treat every person who comes into our service as an individual, so being flexible, curious and a good listener are key.

What You’ll Be Doing

  • Building Trust and Supporting Recovery: You’ll be there from the very first contact, guiding individuals through assessments, planning, and onward referrals, ensuring they receive the support they need.
  • Creating Safe and Engaging Spaces: You’ll deliver workshops and group sessions on topics like managing emotions, improving sleep, and building healthy relationships, adapting your approach to meet individual needs.
  • Promoting Growth and Independence: You’ll encourage resilience, peer connections, and self-determination, empowering individuals to lead purposeful, fulfilling lives.
  • Reducing Harm and Fostering Integration: You’ll help reduce the risks associated with substance use and support people in reconnecting with their communities.

  • Lived Experience or Understanding of Substance Use Challenges: Your personal journey or understanding of substance use and recovery gives you a unique perspective and ability to empathise with those you support.
  • A Desire to Lead and Inspire: If you’re not experienced in facilitating groups yet, you’re eager to learn. You are confident in building connections, engaging others, and handling challenges with empathy and professionalism.
  • Strong Interpersonal and Communication Skills: You are a great listener, a clear communicator, and comfortable learning new IT skills to enhance your work.
  • Proactive and Eager to Learn: You bring energy and initiative, ready to develop your skills, manage your time effectively, and embrace challenges with a positive outlook.
  • Awareness of Mental Health and Recovery: Whether through experience or curiosity, you’re passionate about understanding mental health and the journey to recovery, and you’re ready to expand your knowledge in these areas.
  • Team-Oriented and Collaborative: You work well with others, valuing the strengths of diverse teams and building strong relationships with professionals, stakeholders, and the community.
  • A Commitment to Making a Difference: You understand the importance of safeguarding and confidentiality and are eager to grow, improve, and contribute to the success of the team and the people we support.
