Job description

We're looking for a Shift Leader to join our team at One Stop, a subsidiary of Tesco. As a Shift Leader, you will be working in a fast paced retail environment where no day is the same.

As a Shift Leader you will take ownership of store activities by running duty shifts and coordinating a team to deliver a clean and full store that exceeds customer expectations. You will regularly look for ways to improve service through on-the-job coaching and feedback, understand store performance, and deliver practical actions for improvement. With your guidance, the store will remain a safe place to work and shop.

Responsibilities
  • Coordinate the team to deliver the easiest shopping ______ trip in the community
  • Open/close the store and complete duty cover, ensuring all decisions are right for customers, colleagues, and everyone's safety.
  • Act as the go‑to person in the absence of the Store Manager for day‑to‑day operational queries.
  • Support the Store Manager in coordinating seasonal, community and charity events to create an inclusive atmosphere.
  • Maintain store cleanliness, tidiness and presentation.
  • Prioritise replenishment of products that matter to customers.
  • Ensure POS and shelf edge labels reflect best practices.
  • Take immediate action for any overcharges and prevent recurrence.

  • Co‑ordinate colleagues’ breaks to align with trade patterns.
  • Ensure knowledge of the store and drive practical improvement actions.
  • Follow company health and safety routines and ensure colleagues do the same.

  • Suggest operational simplifications and share ideas with the Store Manager.
  • Always put the customer first and consider them in everything you do.
  • Readily resolve customer queries, leaving them with a smile.
  • Adjust your service to meet each customer’s needs.
  • Recognise and celebrate colleagues providing great service.
  • Identify obstacles to great service and remove them.
  • Resolve colleague queries in the absence of the Store Manager or appropriately escalates them.
  • Ensure the store is staffed appropriately, covering short‑term absences and sickness.
  • Act as a recognised Keyholder, attending alarm callouts for store safety and security.
  • Monitor internal communications and act on messages promptly.
  • Co‑ordinate colleagues to meet customer and operational needs, feeding back issues to the Store Manager.
  • Balance time between service and replenishment areas kompromised.
  • Support the Store Manager in managing store absence, ensuring return‑to‑work interviews and attendance of CSA colleagues.
  • Build relationships with the Area Manager and People Partner, escalating relevant issues and seeking support when needed.

If this store has a Post Office Local, you will need to run day‑to‑day post office operations. You must pass a Post Office financial and criminal conviction background check. Failure to pass will result in withdrawal of the job offer.
