Job description

We are seeking an enthusiastic individual with previous health or social care experience to support our team in providing occupational therapy to surgical patients at Southmead Hospital. The team cover the surgical specialties of General Surgery, Vascular Surgery and Burns & Plastics.

The post may close early if sufficient applications are received so you are advised to apply as soon as possible.

Under the supervision of a registered occupational therapist, you will work with patients on the wards and in therapy areas to provide a range of interventions to facilitate recovery and promote independence. This will include supporting individuals to use the toilet, wash & dress or carry out other domestic tasks. You may also be required to support groups and facilitate other meaningful activities.

Under the supervision of a registered occupational therapist the post holder is expected to:
  • Treat patients within acute specialties, providing a range of interventions to facilitate recovery and promote independence.
  • Work with patients towards their functional goals and assist timely discharge from hospital. Tasks include personal and domestic activities of daily living, organising and implementing physical treatment sessions from treatment protocols, monitoring patient progress, adapting treatment as necessary with advice from an occupational therapist.
  • The role involves both direct patient contact and indirect patient related duties. It is also necessary to undertake some administration and departmental duties.
