BAM UK & Ireland is recruiting an Occupational Health and Safety Advisor to join the Team. This role will be to primarily support construction operations in our Scotland region and based out of our Stepps / Kilsyth offices.

The position will involve a mixture of working from home, on site and working across our Scotland construction business. Travel will be necessary around the north of England.

Making Possible

Keep up to date with recommended codes of practice, health and safety literature and changes in legislation.

  • Participate in sharing best practice
  • Keep H&S Manager informed regarding compliance with the support procedures as well as making them aware of the day-to-day monitoring of H&S within the Business Units.
  • Perform the duties of H&S Adviser in accordance with the relevant statute.

Advise all levels of management on :

  • Preventing injury to personnel and damage to plant and equipment.
  • Further improvement in existing safe working methods.
  • Legal requirements affecting safety, health, welfare.

Provision and use of protective clothing and equipment.

Potential hazards arising from new contracts before work starts on site including safety organisation arrangements and fire precautions.

Maintain links with authoritative bodies and reference documents to ensure that changes in legislation remain current throughout all Health & Safety documentation.

Content of Project Health and Safety Plan
  • Assist in ensuring the formulation, monitoring and use of BAM’s Health & Safety Policy and procedures for legal compliance and industry best practice.
  • Liaise with BAM Design Managers to advise compliance with the Construction [Design and Management] Regulations.
  • Carry out site inspections and audits, in association with site management to ensure that only safe methods of working are in operation and that company and statutory requirements are being observed.
  • Investigate and determine the cause of accidents or dangerous occurrence, near misses and report accordingly and make recommendations to prevent recurrence.
  • Assist with safety training for all levels of employee and promote awareness of safety and accident prevention.
  • Maintain contact with official and professional bodies, e.g. Health and Safety Executive, Fire Authorities, Institute of Occupational Safety and Health and other safety organisations.
  • Foster within BAM Construct UK Ltd an understanding that safety and accident prevention are an integral part of business and operational efficiency.
Your team

The position will involve a mixture of working from home, on site and working across our Scotland Construction business. Travel will be necessary around Scotland and occasionally to locations in England and may involve overnight stays

Qualifications
  • A degree is preferable but not essential.
  • NEBOSH Construction Certificate (minimum)
  • Chartered Member of IOSH or working towards it
  • Proficient in Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint plus other digital technologies

  • You will be self-motivated and enthusiastic
  • Ability to work with little direct supervision
  • Exemplary written reporting skills
  • Time management and organisation skills to a high level
  • Ability to present to large and small groups including delivery of formal training courses
  • You will be able to research subjects and report on your findings
  • Clean UK driving license and willingness to travel to other UK locations.
