Job summary

A defence contractor in Plymouth is seeking a Nuclear Training Instructor to deliver and develop training for the Royal Navy's submarine capability. The role

As a Nuclear Training Instructor, you’ll have a role with real impact, helping to maintain the Royal Navy’s submarine capability and supporting national security. You’ll gain exposure to cutting‑edge defence projects while advancing your own expertise in adult learning and nuclear standards.

Day-to-day, you’ll deliver and develop training that builds nuclear safety competence across one of the UK’s most complex engineering environments.

  • Deliver and facilitate nuclear safety training, from awareness sessions to advanced technical courses, for a diverse audience across the Devonport site
  • Evaluate and enhance training content to meet quality standards and nuclear site licence conditions (LC10 and LC12)
  • Collaborate with Learning and Development teams to maintain compliance and improve training outcomes
  • Provide subject‑matter expertise for new course development aligned to the Defence Enterprise Nuclear Competency Framework
  • Manage administration and reporting linked to training delivery and compliance

This role is full time, 35 hours per week and is based on site at Devonport Royal Dockyard.

Essential experience of the Nuclear Training Instructor
  • Demonstrable experience delivering technical training, ideally within the Naval Nuclear Propulsion Programme
  • Experience in course design, maintenance and evaluation
  • Ability to engage confidently with stakeholders at all levels
  • Strong team player who can also work independently
  • Familiarity with compliance training requirements and regulations
Qualifications for the Nuclear Training Instructor
Essential:
  • Level 3 Award in Education and Training (or equivalent)
Preferred:
  • Experience within the Naval Nuclear Propulsion Programme
  • Background in a highly regulated environment (nuclear, defence, aerospace)

The successful candidate must be a sole UK national who is able to achieve and maintain Naval Nuclear Propulsion Information (NNPPI) security clearance for this role.
