Nuclear Mechanical Design Engineer – SC Cleared

Our client, a leading organisation within the Defence & Security sector, is currently seeking a Nuclear Mechanical Design Engineer on a contract basis to join their team in Derby. The role involves contributing to key nuclear programmes, including the UK Submarine programme, existing nuclear generation fleet, decommissioning projects and high integrity structures for new nuclear establishments.

Key Responsibilities
  • Design and analysis of mechanical systems for nuclear programmes
  • Ensure technical project delivery meets time, quality, and cost objectives
  • Prepare key technical documentation, including calculations, design reports, and requirements
  • Work collaboratively within engineering teams, taking responsibility for projects from inception to completion
  • Ensure solutions adhere to design codes and industry standards for safety‑critical sectors
  • Support and enhance existing mechanical systems and infrastructure
  • Provide technical guidance and mentorship to junior engineers as needed
  • Engage effectively with stakeholders and present findings clearly and concisely
Job Requirements
  • Degree qualified in Mechanical Engineering or related discipline
  • Experience in the nuclear sector, particularly in PWR technology design, substantiation, and analysis
  • Proven track record of delivering technical projects and services effectively
  • Familiarity with design codes and industry standards appropriate for safety critical industries
  • Strong ability to produce technical documentation such as calculations and design reports
  • Mechanical design and engineering skills relevant to defence and security projects
  • Excellent communication and presentation skills
