The InPostNewstrade division specialises in final‑mile delivery for newspaper publishers and magazine distributors, covering 75% of the UK and Ireland with a 45% market share. Operating from 36 locations, it delivers almost 1bn newspapers, magazines, and collectibles to around 21,000 customers. The division includes core final‑mile operations, magazine primary distribution, corporate distribution, outsourced retail consultancy, and airside media placement.

About the role

As the Senior Night Manager for InPost Newstrade, you will be responsible for overseeing all night‑time Newstrade operations, ensuring newspapers, magazines, and print products are received, processed, and dispatched accurately and on time. You will be the most senior leader on‑site during night hours, ensuring operational performance, colleague safety, stock integrity, and service delivery are consistently achieved.

This is a fast paced, time critical environment where strong leadership, excellent organisation, and confident decision making are essential.

Location: InPost, Oliver Close, Unit 4, West Thurrock, Essex, RM20 3EE

Shift Pattern: Tuesday to Saturday

Hours: 01 : 00am to 09 : 30am

Salary: £36,000 to £38,000 depending on experience

What you’ll be doing :

Operational Leadership
  • Oversee all night‑time Newstrade operations, ensuring smooth, accurate, and timely processing of all print products.
  • Monitor and manage workflow across the shift, proactively addressing challenges to prevent delays.
  • Ensure consistent adherence to operational standards, SOPs, and quality requirements across the night team.
  • Take full responsibility for meeting dispatch deadlines, service‑level agreements, and nightly performance targets.
Team Management & Development
  • Lead, guide, and motivate a diverse night‑shift team, ensuring clarity of direction and accountability.
  • Conduct regular briefings, allocate tasks effectively, and maintain strong communication throughout the shift.
  • Provide coaching and support to develop staff capability, confidence, and long‑term performance.
  • Foster a positive, inclusive team culture built around respect, teamwork, and shared success.
Stock & System Control
  • Ensure complete accuracy of stock movements within warehouse systems throughout the night.
  • Investigate variances, discrepancies, or exceptions, ensuring corrective actions are taken and documented.
  • Maintain the integrity of all Newstrade stock records, ensuring transparency and compliance at all times.
Health, Safety & Compliance
  • Promote a culture of safety, ensuring all colleagues follow safe working practices at all times.
  • Conduct toolbox talks, safety checks, equipment checks, and routine audits during the shift.
  • Ensure the night operation adheres to all health & safety policies, regulatory requirements, and site procedures.
  • Uphold high standards of housekeeping, ensuring all work areas remain clean, organised, and hazard‑free.
Resource, Planning & Cost Control
  • Plan and allocate labour, breaks, and tasks in line with nightly volumes and business requirements.
  • Ensure equipment is used safely and efficiently, reporting any issues or requirements promptly.
  • Contribute to cost control by driving productivity, minimising downtime, and reducing waste.
Handover & Reporting
  • Complete comprehensive handovers for day‑shift management, capturing key events, performance data, and action points.
  • Report operational issues, safety concerns, or process irregularities through the correct channels.
  • Support effective communication between night and day staff to ensure continuity and shared accountability.
Continuous Improvement
  • Identify opportunities to enhance processes, workflows, and night‑shift efficiency.
  • Encourage staff involvement in improvement ideas that benefit safety, productivity, or working practices.
  • Support company initiatives and new processes aimed at improving overall Newstrade operations.
What we need from you

Strong leadership experience within Newstrade, logistics, warehouse, or distribution operations.

A solid understanding of time‑critical print handling, stock management, and dispatch processes.

Excellent communication skills with the ability to guide, influence, and develop teams.

Highly organised with the ability to prioritise effectively and make confident decisions under pressure.

A proactive mindset, capable of identifying and resolving issues before they impact service delivery.

Strong commitment to maintaining exceptional standards of safety, accuracy, quality, and housekeeping.
