We are seeking an enthusiastic individual with a passion for animals to join us as an OOH Night Veterinary Patient Care Assistant at ChesterGates Veterinary Specialists.

Contract: Permanent

Shift Pattern

Shift Pattern: You will be working 5 nights on, 10 nights off

Salary

Salary: Salary will be up to £20,362.25 due to annualised hours contract, including holiday and CPD allowance. (Please note the salary is in line with NMW and is age dependant.)

About the role

The Patient Care Assistant role is one of the foundations of an outstanding veterinary practice, and as a PCA you will be involved in supporting our team of qualified RVNs and Vets to provide outstanding care to our patients.

This role will be mainly working on the wards but will also involve some reception, theatre and lab work when needed.

Some of the duties will include:

  • Assisting nurses/vets with procedures - restraining patients for samples, catheter placements, clinical exams, medications
  • Lab work - running bloods and urine samples in-house, sending samples away, preparing medication prescriptions
  • Theatre - helping to set up/close down theatres and clean kits
  • Patient care - walking dogs, grooming patients, feeding patients, assist with physiotherapy
  • Cleaning - maintaining a high standard of cleanliness throughout the hospital
What we’re looking for
  • An excellent communicator with strong empathy
  • Excellent customer service skills and experience in dealing with members of the public
  • Experience in animal welfare, including feeding, cleaning, medicating and handling and a high level of understanding of how to meet the welfare needs of animals
  • Resilient with the ability to cope with potentially distressing and emotional situations
  • A positive attitude and excellent teamwork skills
  • Experience in looking after animals in a veterinary environment would be desirable
