A prominent public healthcare program in Newcastle upon Tyne is looking for graduates for its NHS Procurement Graduate Training Scheme. This 2-year program offers hands-on experience in procurement across various NHS settings, combined with a fully funded procurement qualification. Candidates with a minimum 2:2 degree are encouraged to apply, with opportunities for skill development, mentoring, and guaranteed employment. The role offers a salary between £27,485 and £34,876, subject to location adjustments.
The NHS Procurement Graduate Training Scheme has been designed for ambitious graduates who want to develop a career in procurement and the NHS. The 2-year paid programme will give you opportunities, working in various NHS procurement settings, to experience what this industry has to offer. You will gain an internationally recognised Procurement qualification (CIPS).

The scheme enables graduates to develop their skills and knowledge in a diverse field which is invaluable to the success of the NHS. The Covid-19 pandemic highlighted the importance of procurement in ensuring the NHS functions effectively. Although you will be employed by a specific NHS organisation, this placement will allow you to gain experience in different procurement areas and departments.
The role of the procurement team varies by organisation. Procurement teams in some organisations may conduct slightly different tasks to those in an Acute Trust, Mental Health Trust, Community Trust or Integrated Care Board (ICB). However, many basic principles remain consistent, such as working with category teams, managing supply chains, procuring non-clinical items, medical supplies, wards and staff uniforms. You may also learn about negotiating, contracts, Scan for Safety, inventory management and sustainability. There is sure to be something that will capture the attention of a motivated graduate.
