Overview

This is an exciting opportunity to join a unique and specialist team in a largely community-based post. Suitable for a Therapist (Occupational Therapist/Physiotherapist) or Nurse, the role requires working with paediatric and adult patients across specialist and community care environments in the East of England, specifically covering Bedfordshire and parts of Hertfordshire.

The role supports the care of patients with genetic and acquired neuromuscular disorders such as muscular dystrophy, spinal muscular atrophy and other muscle wasting conditions. You will support the regional specialist Neuromuscular Clinics at Addenbrooke's Hospital in Cambridge as well as Neuromuscular Clinics in other hospitals/clinical settings in the region. Neuromuscular conditions often require complex multidisciplinary care, working in multiple settings including clinics, inpatient units, homes, schools/colleges and other community settings.

Responsibilities
  • Provide coordination, advice and support for people living with a neuromuscular condition, their families and their carers.
  • Work directly and semi-autonomously supporting people living with neuromuscular conditions in the East of England and alongside the specialist neuromuscular teams at Addenbrooke's Hospital as well as community-based paediatric, neurology and therapy teams.
  • Be based at Addenbrooke's Hospital with flexible working opportunities; utilise virtual platforms where appropriate.
  • Support specialist Paediatric and Adult Neurology Consultants and paediatric neuromuscular CNS in regional neuromuscular clinics.
  • Provide specialist condition-specific training and education to health, education and social care professionals to ensure maximally effective care in all settings.
  • Deliver specialist advice and apply an understanding of challenges related to identification, assessment, treatment and ongoing management of a long-term condition.
  • Travel within the East of England is required; a driving licence and access to a vehicle are highly desirable. Travel costs are reimbursed through the Trust's expenses systems; business pool cars are available for work-related journeys.
Requirements / Qualifications
  • Experience delivering specialist advice and an understanding of the challenges faced in identification, assessment, treatment and ongoing management of long-term conditions.
  • Ability to work across multiple settings and with multidisciplinary teams; capacity to provide education and training to professionals as required.
  • Independent travel within the East of England; driving licence and access to a vehicle preferred.
