Job summary

A leading telecommunications firm in the UK is looking for a Network Engineer with SC clearance to support a secure program. The role includes designing and deploying network solutions while maintaining performance and security. Candidates should have strong experience with Cisco and Juniper hardware, as well as proficiency in network protocols like TCP/IP, OSPF, and BGP. This position offers a hybrid working model, ideal for those in regulated environments.

Qualifications

  • Strong knowledge of TCP/IP, DNS, DHCP, VLANs, and routing protocols such as OSPF and BGP.
  • Hands-on experience with enterprise network hardware (e.g. Cisco, Juniper, or similar).
  • Solid understanding of firewalls and network security appliances.
  • Experience using network monitoring tools such as SolarWinds or equivalent.
  • Active SC clearance.

Responsibilities

  • Plan, configure, and deploy network solutions including LAN, WAN, WLAN and VPNs.
  • Monitor network performance and troubleshoot to ensure high availability.
  • Implement and maintain network security controls including firewalls and access controls.
  • Produce and maintain accurate network diagrams and documentation.
  • Work closely with internal IT teams and third‑party vendors to support projects.
  • Carry out regular upgrades and patching of network hardware and software.
  • Respond quickly to network outages and security incidents.

We are seeking an experienced SC Cleared Network Engineer to support a secure programme delivering and maintaining resilient network infrastructure. This role will suit someone comfortable working in regulated environments, owning network design through to BAU support and incident response.

Key Responsibilities
Design & Implementation

Plan, configure, and deploy network solutions including LAN, WAN, WLAN and VPNs to meet business and security requirements.

Maintenance & Optimisation

Monitor network performance, proactively identify issues, and troubleshoot to ensure high availability and optimal performance.

Security

Implement and maintain network security controls including firewalls, IDS/IPS, and access controls in line with security standards.

Documentation

Produce and maintain accurate network diagrams, configurations, and operational documentation.

Collaboration

Work closely with internal IT teams, architects, and third‑party vendors to support infrastructure projects and resolve escalated issues.

Upgrades & Patching

Carry out regular upgrades and patching of network hardware and software to maintain compliance and stability.

Incident Response

Respond quickly and effectively to network outages and security incidents, supporting root cause analysis and remediation.

Required Skills & Experience
  • Strong knowledge of TCP/IP, DNS, DHCP, VLANs, and routing protocols such as OSPF and BGP
  • Hands‑on experience with enterprise network hardware (e.g. Cisco, Juniper, or similar)
  • Solid understanding of firewalls and network security appliances
  • Experience using network monitoring tools such as SolarWinds, Nagios, or equivalent
  • Active SC clearance
  • Relevant certifications such as CCNP, CompTIA Network+, or equivalent experience
Desirable
  • Familiarity with cloud networking in AWS and/or Azure
  • Experience working in highly secure or regulated environments
