Required
  • Qualified to degree level in Naval Architecture / Small Craft Design.
  • Small Craft Design Standards (IMO, MCA, ISO, DefStan, LR, DNV Classification Society Rules)
  • Small Craft Systems Design
  • Vessel Powering and Performance Analysis.
  • Stability Analysis (Maxsurf)
  • 3D modelling, (Rhino, Solid Edge) 2D Drafting Knowledge and Experience.
  • Composite Design.
  • Structural analysis, both theoretical and using FEA,
  • Knowledge of commercial and/or military small craft.
  • Demonstrate excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills to enable effective interaction and work across multi-disciplinary teams, of various knowledge and skills, both internally and externally.
  • Able to build rapport and develop working relationships with a strong team focus.
  • Ability to use own initiative when working independently and under pressure.
  • Strong time management skills with the ability to prioritiseand manage personal workloads in a structured plan, aligning with project milestones, and ensuring deadlines are achieved.
  • Capable of working in dynamic projects without supervision.
  • Willingness to travel in the UK and overseas.

Key accountabilities

Support to the Systems Design Team within the Surface Ship Systems Division:

  • Translating customer requirements into vessel specifications and design particulars.
  • Understanding and applying relevant Classification Society Rules, Industry Regulations, and Legal requirements.
  • Review of preliminary designs arrangements.
  • Hull resistance predictions and propulsion performance estimates.
  • Managing weights & centres, and general stability information.
  • Leading discrete design tasks in relation to current projects as directed by project Design Authority. This will be wide-ranging and cover everything from developing detailed information, to supporting design decisions, to preparing material for formal reviews.
  • Supporting Product Managers with collating information for product specifications.
  • Working with Design Authorities and Product Managers to develop and maintain product roadmaps.
  • Supporting our Sales Team during bidding activities for future project opportunities, specifically preparing technical information, writingtechnical descriptions and reviewing bid documents prior to submission.
  • Attending client and supplier meetings.
  • Attending and supporting equipment tests and sea trials.
