National Indirect Sales Manager Country: United Kingdom

Santander Consumer Finance is one of the UK’s Leading Motor Finance companies providing finance to a network of car dealerships throughout the United Kingdom.

We are now looking for a National Indirect Sales Manager to be responsible for the delivery of new business volume and other objectives through SCUK’s Leasing Indirect and Direct-to-Consumer channels.

Reporting to the Sales Director, this senior role will head up the Red Label Indirect and D2C Contract Hire division managing the regional BDM team and delivering budgeted commercial objectives and channel oversight in line with SCUK policies and Regulatory principles.

This role will be a national role with the first few months based in Milton Keynes at least 3 days a week. Moving forward there will be increasing field-based sales activities as the Leasing Company nears go live. There is also occasional travel to Redhill to the SCUK Head Office.

Responsibilities will include:
  • Develop and continuously improve the strategic plan for Indirect and D2C channels. Support implementation of SASOL programme and other initiatives
  • Use knowledge and gain market intelligence to provide Insight and direction into market movements and changing consumer behaviour
  • Develop new business and pricing strategies to drive incremental growth and margin whilst maintaining required margins
  • Support OEM Procurement and Dealer Supply
  • Support negotiation of OEM & Dealer terms for supply of vehicles, including Commit to Purchase
  • Establish mutually beneficial relationships with all internal stakeholders as detailed above to foster collaboration.
  • Effectively manage external stakeholders including senior contacts/owners at Broker Partners
  • Work with OEM and Dealer partners to ensure SCUK receives discounts and opportunities commensurate with the leasing sector
  • Provides leadership in an environment in which people are keen to perform and succeed in reaching targets and fulfilling individual potential
  • Seeks to understand individual development needs and implements coaching programmes
  • Imparts knowledge and keeps staff regularly updated on company strategy, progress and developments
  • Maintains contact with Broker, Dealer and OEM partners to continually update knowledge and understanding of changing market requirements, needs and how future requirements will interface with Santander
  • Negotiation of commercially viable relationships
  • Maintains up to date knowledge of competitor activity and products
  • Understands the impact of legislative, regulatory and taxation based changes to ensure SCUK’s product offering is fit for purpose
  • Actively seeks prospect and customer views and shares feedback with Sales Director, Senior Management team and Marketing
  • Creates collaborative mutually beneficial relationships with key internal departments such as Pricing, Risk, Operations
  • Creates and implements Corporate Sales strategy to meet Commercial Team’s volume, case and margin targets
  • Communicates the business requirements to the sales team and directs design and implementation of team business plans
  • Communicates how team achievements/activities supports Santander overall strategy
  • Monitors activity levels maintained by sales team and optimum “territory management” maintained
  • Monitors, reviews and responds to trends in all areas of business performance
  • Delivery of agreed team sales targets
  • Monitoring of Broker and Dealer partners to ensure adherence to policy and required volumes/efficiencies are being met
  • Design and develop a range of targeting, monitoring and training systems to improve sales activity
  • Regular liaison with Operations dept to ensure customer SLA’s are being met
  • Maintaining appropriate product mix with associated margin performance
  • Adhering to our commitment to Consumer Duty ensuring we put our customers’ needs first and set higher and clearer standards of consumer protection
What we’re looking for:
  • Will be well versed in the broader areas of financial services operations including:
    • Indirect leasing market place
    • Procurement – OEM (Non Captive) & Supplying Dealer
    • Products and services, especially Contract Hire
    • Team Management
    • Automotive market
  • Successful and highly effective sales manager with demonstrable direct line management experience in leading high performing teams
  • Experience of leading and coaching of sales staff to achieve targets
  • Ability to demonstrate external perspective and organisational awareness
  • Detailed operational knowledge of CH systems and processes
  • Has in depth knowledge and understanding of Broker and D2C marketplaces; anticipating and able to respond to market trends
  • Sound and relevant risk analysis experience within financial services, automotive/asset related, together with the required soft skills
  • Has a general sound knowledge of policies and procedures within financial services regulated and compliant environments
  • Proven ability to negotiate, influence and motivate at all levels both externally and internally
  • Preferably understands the retail consumer credit environment and the use of customer data in addition to Leasing sector. Is familiar with the principles encapsulated within ‘treating customers fairly’ and operation/conduct risk
  • Expert in contract hire and ancillary products and how these products are marketed, sold and managed via third parties.
  • High degree of legal, regulatory and compliance issues is essential
