Job summary

An opportunity has arisen for a Band 5 Multi-skilled Laundry Maintenance Technician based at Green Vale Laundry.

The role will involve the day‑to‑day maintenance of plant and equipment, including services of steam, water, electricity and all laundry equipment, including steam generation equipment, along with occasional installation duties. A key focus is contributing to the optimal performance of the laundry PPM system, as well as responding to machine breakdowns.

Duties include using strategic spares to ensure optimum plant performance and assisting the production team in achieving KPI targets. The post holder must be capable of working independently and under current industry and H&S standards.

The hours of work for this role follow a continental two‑week shift pattern, which includes 12‑hour shift work and weekends.

Main duties of the job

The laundry technician must have completed a recognised apprenticeship in either mechanical or electrical disciplines, finished a relevant City & Guilds craft certificate course, and possess a sound knowledge of trade principles and practice.

They must have gained a thorough understanding of engineering maintenance systems and have significant experience, demonstrating high versatility and flexibility, while staying up‑to‑date with technical knowledge relevant to a healthcare environment.

To provide technical information and advise other staff groups on maintenance issues that may impact service delivery.

To plan and prioritise maintenance or minor work activities on a day‑to‑day and long‑term basis, ensuring the plant runs at optimum performance.

To possess the necessary IT skills needed to enter and manipulate data associated with frontline maintenance activities and work on the PPM system.

The ability to speak Welsh is desirable; Welsh and/or English speakers are equally welcome to apply.

Person Specification

Qualifications and Knowledge – Essential

  • Range of work procedures and practices underpinned by theory or practical experience.
  • Knowledge of a full range of trade procedures acquired through a 4‑year accredited training course on required equipment; Level 3 vocational qualification or equivalent plus relevant training or equivalent experience, and additional training and developed skills such as pneumatics/hydraulics.
  • Significant experience in mechanical and electrical maintenance and able to demonstrate versatility and flexibility.

Qualifications and Knowledge – Desirable

  • Specialist knowledge of industrial laundry maintenance.
  • Evidence of significant CPD.
  • Healthcare engineering‑related CPD.
  • Recognised qualifications in both mechanical and electrical engineering.
  • Qualifications and experience in hydraulics, pneumatics, PLC programming and steam generator control systems.

Experience – Essential

  • Significant experience of working within a complex engineering service industry on one or more areas of specialist engineering maintenance.
  • Completion of a structured training programme (18th Edition /Gas Safe or F‑Gas Qualification).

Experience – Desirable

  • Previous experience of working within the NHS.
  • Refrigeration.
  • Fire alarm systems.
  • Compressors.
  • Industrial laundry equipment.
