Job description

To work within the Engineering team to ensure that all plant, equipment and services are operating efficiently, and to the agreed safety standards to enable all production and sales requirements to be met.

Responsibilities

• Operate an effective planned preventative maintenance programme for plant and equipment which results in minimum plant downtime.
• Seek out areas for plant improvement and recommend improvement actions which will result in increased quality, plant utilisation, throughput etc.
• Meet company quality standards at all times.
• Participate in Bakery Team training and briefing.
• Work in different parts of the bakery as required, and to required shift patterns.
• Use all company business tools/equipment following company procedures.
• Establish the cause of electrical and mechanical breakdowns and identify and implement the best solution.
• Diagnose electrical or mechanical faults in equipment and carry out any necessary day to day repairs.
• Perform routine maintenance of production equipment and machinery.
• Ensure effective communication between and within departments and shifts to maintain production capacity and engineering efficiency.
• Complete all administration and documentation at the end of every shift.
• Respond quickly to any issue, especially under breakdown conditions, to minimise engineering downtime.
• Organise routine servicing schedules.
• Check and calibrate instruments to ensure they are accurate.
• Fit new parts.
• Keep Operational Managers informed on progress of repairs.
• Actively participate in a continuous improvement culture throughout the site, constantly identifying opportunities to improve efficiencies and reduce waste.
• Ensure planned maintenance work is completed to strict schedules and constantly look for improvements that will ensure reliability of equipment is improved.
• Assist with the implementation of manufacturing improvement techniques (Lean Manufacturing).

Qualifications

• Engineering qualification.

• Good mechanical and electrical skills.
• Understanding of engineering drawings and principles.
• PLC experience from working in a bakery / food manufacturing site is essential.
