Overview

The successful candidate will be part of a team responsible for the operational management of the department. This includes management of performance and staff related KPIs, monitoring professional standards and supporting effective patient care. We are looking for a dedicated and dynamic radiographer with key people management skills and a drive for improving standards and provision of compassionate patient centred care.

Responsibilities
  • To manage radiographic, admin & clerical staff, assistant practitioners, radiology assistants and students within a designated area/department, provide clear clinical leadership for the day to day organisation of the departmental section in accordance with professional and departmental protocols.
  • To carry out the full range of imaging/duties within specialised area, to be consistently high standard.
  • To undertake imaging tasks, in line with governmental and departmental protocols, working both alone and with multidisciplinary teams, within specialised area.
  • To check patient identification and documentation, and ensure the appropriate radiographic examinations are carried out in accordance with departmental protocols and clinical requests.
  • Develop, monitor and maintain standards of care in accordance with Trust policies, guidelines, protocols and professional regulations.
  • Operate equipment, assess patient needs, adapt and modify radiographic techniques according to the patient’s condition, attending to patients’ welfare at all times.
  • Evaluate resultant images for diagnostic quality and alert clinicians of any abnormality when appropriate.
  • Organise facilities for carrying out routine and specialist investigations. Lead and supervise radiographic and support staff in the preparation of those sessions.
  • Arrange, plan and participate in the department Quality Assurance programme to ensure efficient operation of highly technical equipment, and ensure compliance with best practice while adhering to MRI safety guidelines.
  • Assist department managers with planning maintenance schedules, initiate and monitor external engineers to breakdowns, to support prompt service resumption.
  • Maintain stock management, including purchasing control, staffing, stock and petty cash expenditure as delegated.
  • Participate in the provision of an Out of Hours service, to support full 7 day service delivery as part of contracted hours.
  • Be familiar with, understand and apply principles of Radiation Safety, nationally and locally regulated or protocol led, defining and arranging safe systems of work.
  • Arrange and define local reporting systems compliant with legislation for CAE reporting, incorporating accidental/erroneous exposures with action planning to better manage systems.
  • Provide expert training in specialist equipment and give theoretical instruction, practical guidance, and supervision to less experienced staff, Student Radiographers, Assistant Practitioners and trainees.
  • Schedule, liaise and undertake work assessments as required for trainee staff and accreditation programme candidates.
  • Assist with the practical experience of newly inducted staff, educate and promote adherence to Trust working policies for all staff groups within the department.
  • Timely manage the Out of Hours and On call rosters, in line with the departmental agreement, negotiating additional cover to meet demands for additional radiographic provision.
  • Manage staff annual leave, toil and training to maintain a core staffing resource.
  • Be responsible for the operational supervision and management of an appropriate area, assessing and managing workflow to utilise available resources, in liaison with other staff in the department, and in the absence of other senior staff supervise other areas ensuring those areas are working to agreed standards.
  • Collaborative working with management teams to develop/modernise service delivery, analysing service provision, service needs and development needs to support the Trust’s ability to meet capacity and demand pressures, through safe structured, planned schemes.
  • Deal with day to day queries generated by patients, staff and requests presenting at reception, and arrange appointments as necessary with prior consultation with radiological and senior radiographic staff where indicated; liaise with clerical staff, adapting standard bookings for patient specific conditions.
