Job Title: Handyman / Fabric Maintenance Operative

About the Role
We are seeking an experienced and reliable Handyman / Fabric Maintenance Operative to join our facilities team, supporting the smooth running and upkeep of a property portfolio. This is a varied role where you’ll be responsible for day-to-day maintenance, compliance tasks, and ensuring buildings remain safe, presentable, and compliant at all times.
Key Responsibilities
- Carry out minor fabric repairs and maintenance to buildings, fixtures, and fittings.
- Undertake basic planned preventative maintenance (PPM) including water testing, PAT testing, and other compliance checks.
- Complete regular full building inspections to ensure high standards and compliance.
- Carry out painting, decorating, and presentation improvements across the portfolio.
- Perform minor landscaping and upkeep of external areas to maintain standards.
- Escalate specialist or out-of-scope works where required.
- Log and complete reactive maintenance requests via the helpdesk within agreed SLAs.
- Support with closing out compliance activities, including Fire Risk Assessment (FRA) works.
- Act as a fire marshal and first aider while on site.
- Provide cover and support within the wider operations team when required.
- Assist with moves, room setups, portering, and general FM support tasks.
Success Metrics
- Meeting compliance, PPM, and helpdesk KPIs.
- Maintaining properties in excellent operational and decorative order.
- Delivering high customer satisfaction.
- Achieving agreed personal objectives.
About You
You will be:
- A strong communicator (both written and verbal) with good listening skills.
- Self-motivated, well-organised, and able to work independently or as part of a team.
- Customer-focused with a proactive and collaborative approach.
- Able to manage tasks under pressure while meeting deadlines and service targets.
- Comfortable using MS Office applications and familiar with technology for logging jobs.
You will have
- A full UK driving licence (required, company van provided).
- A solid understanding of basic maintenance and handyman fabric repairs within an FM environment.
- Previous experience in a similar facilities/maintenance role, ideally supporting a property portfolio.
- Knowledge of health & safety legislation, statutory compliance, and safe working practices.
