Overview

Summary

The welder is responsible for operating appropriate equipment to put together mechanical structures or parts with a high degree of precision, serving as the foundation for strong infrastructure. They also repair products that do not meet customer needs.

Responsibilities
  • Recognize, set up, and operate hand and power tools common to the welding trade, such as shielded metal arc and gas metal arc welding equipment.
  • Operate and/or use forklift, cranes, hoists, slings, grinders, cutting tools, hand tools, drills, punches, and measuring instruments.
  • Select and install torches, torch tips, filler rods, and flux according to welding chart specifications or metal types and thicknesses.
  • Fill holes, cut, contour, and bevel metal plates and structural shapes to dimensions as specified by blueprints, layouts, work orders, and templates.
  • Chip or grind off excess weld, slag, or splatter using hand scrapers, portable grinders, or arc-cutting equipment.
  • Repair products by dismantling, straightening, reshaping, and reassembling parts as necessary.
  • Tig and Mig weld components using materials such as aluminum, steel, and Invar.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.
Education and Work Experience
  • Associates or Technical School
  • One to three years of experience with MIG & TIG welding and fabrication processes.
  • Welding certificates.
Work Authorization/Security Clearance Requirements
  • This position may require a government security clearance; you must be a U.S. citizen for consideration.

Work Conditions
  • Environment Type: Indoors, production environment, temperature controlled; outdoors when required by product location.
  • Exposure Types: Bloodborne pathogens; small/enclosed spaces; cuts/burns; dirt, dust, grease, oil; noisy environment; intense bright light; extreme cold or heat (non-weather); metal shavings; commercial chemicals.
  • Travel Requirements: Up to 10% of the time.

  • Medium work involving moving objects up to 50 pounds.
  • Climbing ladders, stairs, scaffolding, ramps, poles using hands/feet.
  • Moving about on foot to accomplish tasks.
  • Operate motor vehicle, forklift, and/or other heavy equipment.
  • Fine motor tasks (picking, pinching, typing) with fingers.
  • Prolonged periods standing, using tools, and performing repetitive actions.
  • Read instructions, operate machines, and inspect parts produced.
  • Visual inspection of small defects/parts and machine operation.
