Overview

As our Meter Technician you will manage your own workload so you feel like you are your own boss with the support of a big organisation behind you.

Responsibilities
  • Obtain accurate readings from water meters
  • Carry out meter exchanges
  • Collect data
  • Provide excellent customer service and act as the customer champion to ensure queries, planned readings and boundary box meter exchanges are undertaken within service levels
  • Identify and report reactive work to enable completion within service levels
  • Ensure billing information amendments are correctly reported to improve customer service
  • Complete meter reading related operations, maintain accurate records, and ensure maximum efficiency and productivity
  • Identify and report maintenance jobs, meter exchanges and potential leaks; liaise with customers as appropriate
  • Perform non-routine reading and income-related operations, including flow tests to confirm correct supply connections, replace lids, complete void inspections and confirm plots to postal addresses
  • Complete meter exchange operations efficiently and cost-effectively, be aware of impacts to customers, escalate incidents that may affect the water network, and ensure work complies with regulations
  • Track new and old meters and maintain sufficient stock
  • Comply with health and safety regulations and promote the health and safety of themselves and the public
What it takes

We are looking for customer-focused individuals who are based within 30 minutes of Skegness or Louth and surrounding villages, to ensure the needs of our customers are met. You will represent one of the leading water providers in the UK, so a professional image is important; uniform and a van will be provided. The role can be physically demanding as you will walk approximately 3 to 8 miles per day. You will also use a handheld computer to carry out your work. Working hours are flexible between 6:30 to 20:00 Monday to Friday and 08:00 to 14:00 on Saturdays, including early starts and late evenings when our customers are most likely to be at home.

Expectations

The Metering Technician will act as the customer champion, ensuring all customer-driven meter reading queries, planned readings and boundary box exchanges are completed within service levels, maintaining customer service and quality. They will ensure any reactive work is correctly identified and reported, allowing for timely completion. They will ensure billing information amendments are correctly reported to improve customer service. They will complete meter reading operations, maintain records, identify maintenance or leaks, and liaise with customers as appropriate. They will conduct non-routine reading and income-related operations and complete meter exchanges efficiently, considering customer impact and regulatory requirements. They will comply with health and safety regulations and contribute to positive team working and own development.
