Mental Health Support Worker, Young People
Heaton, Bolton
£24570 - £25662 (Dependent on Experience)
Full Time 37.5 hours per week
Care in Mind provide residential services for young people aged 16-30 years old. The young people we care for often require a high level of support to assist with difficulties they may have from self-harming, behaviour, and emotional difficulties. Our aim is to support the young people using a therapeutic approach to help them achieve their individual goals, in preparation for transition to adult life.
At Care in Mind our homes are always a hub of activity and energy where the young people can feel safe, and our staff enjoy coming to work. Your role will involve working with our young people to promote independence through support with education, household tasks and general life skills. You will also update online care records and complete medication administration. In addition, you will be responsible for the general upkeep and tidiness of the home ensuring the young people live in a homely environment.
At our home in Bolton, you will be working with young people who have a variety of mental health diagnoses including Emotionally Unstable Personality Disorder and complex Trauma, and those who use self-harm as a strategy to cope with their emotions. As such, you will be required to be patient, calm and resilient as the support you will be providing to our young people will include helping them to develop their relationships within the community and managing incidents of self-harm.
All young people at the service require support to engage in activities of daily living and improve their independence skills so that they can work towards living in the community once the placement ends. Therefore, you will be supporting this transition through things such as: supporting them to self-administer their own medication, getting back into education, accessing public transport and appointments independently. Our young people are very adventurous and engage in a variety of activities including going to theme parks, horse riding, attending driving lessons, and camping out; you will be encouraged to bring your hobbies to work and create new ideas of interests so there is lots of fun and new experiences.
The home is a 5-bed service and is in Heaton, Bolton. It is a short drive or bus journey away from the centre of Bolton, so it is close to local amenities. The house is a large, well-maintained, homely property with a huge garden, suitable for outdoor activities and camping trips.
Previous care experience is not essential and full training will be provided. You will receive ongoing support and mentoring from our friendly residential and clinical team.
The job is highly rewarding and a great start to developing your career working with young people or enhancing your previous experience of mental health with the opportunity for excellent career development.
